“I’ve fished with Cory for over 15 years in Puerto Jimenez. Fishing in Puerto Jimenez isn’t glamorous, it’s just plain fun fishing. When I fish I’m not interested in big boats, golf courses, sauna, spa or tennis. I want to fish and that’s what Cory likes to do. I enjoy being on the rod fighting a nice fish, but I get just as much enjoyment working with the mate, catching and rigging baits, setting lines, hooking fish, helping with the boat and taking pictures. With Cory you can get involved in the action as much or as little as you want.
Puerto Jimenez isn’t a big city or fancy resort area. The people are really friendly, hardworking and try to make your visit to Costa Rica enjoyable. I always plan to have at least one free day during a visit to enjoy exploring the natural beauties of the Osa. Hiking, Kayaking the mangroves, birding, horseback riding, howler monkeys, lunch at Lapa Rios, nature hikes and just sitting around the pool are all great ways to become closer to the country and people.
The fishing has always been fun. I always leave it up to Cory to decide what we’ll do each day. He is part of the fishing fraternity in Puerto Jimenez and has great contacts with all the captains. Anyone that fishes regularly knows that it’s a big ocean and that it really helps to have good information on what’s happening offshore. Cory is well respected for his fishing ability and his willingness to help others. The result is that he knows what’s happening offshore, where the bite is and what’s working. Marlin, Tuna, Sailfish, Deep Dropping, Cory has consistently put us on the fish.
Some of the best fishing is found inshore. It’s fun and exciting to catch sailfish, marlin and tuna but a big Roosterfish or Snapper hitting a surface popper on light gear can be even more of a challenge. If you want to get into a big Rooster, Cory is the man to see. He not only knows where they live, what they eat, when they are at the dinner table, but he knows how they think. Like a lot of fish in the Jack family, Roosterfish just don’t stop fighting.
Finally Cory has the experience and the equipment to taylor your fishing to whatever style of fishing you like. Popping, Jigging, Trolling, Drop Back Bill fishing, live bait, fly fishing, deep drop, free diving, offshore, inshore and near shore. Cory has done it all and can make your trip fun and enjoyable.
I started fishing when I was 4 years old and have been at it for well over 60 years. Every time I fish with Cory I learn something new and have a new experience. I highly recommend Tropic Fins if you are planning a trip to Costa Rica. You will be well cared for and will have a great experience.”
